The angled posts also sit further back once seated, which gives the bridge a wider footprint and better stability than four vertical implants in the same amount of bone would provide.

You’ll see All-on-4 advertised as teeth in a day, and that’s close to accurate, but it’s worth being precise about what you’re getting.
On surgery day, the implants are placed and a temporary bridge is attached the same appointment. You leave with teeth. What you don’t leave with is your final restoration. Your jaw still needs three to six months to fuse with the implants before the permanent bridge goes on, and you’ll eat softer foods during that window to protect the healing.
So the honest version is teeth in a day, final teeth in a few months. That’s still dramatically faster than the older approach, where patients often went months without teeth while the implants healed.

What Recovery Looks Like
Most patients are surprised that the discomfort after All-on-4 surgery is milder than they expected, closer to a tooth extraction than major oral surgery. Swelling and soreness peak around day two or three and taper off from there.
The first two weeks are the adjustment period. You’ll stay on soft foods, keep the surgical sites clean with a prescribed rinse, and come back in so we can check how the implants are settling. Most people are back to work within a few days.
From there it’s a waiting game while osseointegration happens, meaning the bone fuses to the titanium posts. That takes three to six months depending on your bone quality and how well the sites heal. You’ll wear your temporary bridge the entire time, so there’s no stretch where you’re without teeth. Once your jaw has fully integrated the implants, we place the final bridge.
